Just a few years back, the name Manny Pacquiao is the most stellar name in boxing. After two consecutive losses, first with Timothy Bradley and then followed by a big blow from Juan Manuel Marquez, the name of Pacquiao is no longer that big in boxing. But there’s one way to get that spotlight back and that is to beat the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The fight has been teased a number of times before but that simply did not take place. Pacquiao refused the terms of Mayweather who is demanding an Olympic style of blood testing while Mayweather keeps on throwing out various excuses that resulted to the non taking place of the dream fight.
Nevertheless, Pacquiao is very eager to make the fight happen. In fact, he is willing to give Mayweather the bigger purse just so that the fight will finally take place. If this will actually take place and Pacquiao dominates Mayweather, I’m sure he will be back on the map.
Interest in the return of Manny Pacquiao on the ring is gaining steam as an unofficial offer to fight in Dubai in April for $10 million is being peddled. Freddie Roach said that he got a call from someone in Dubai offering this fight to take place in the Middle East country, but Roach told the caller to get in touch with Bob Arum instead, given that the latter is the one making the fights happen.
A fight in Dubai would be ideal because it would gain a much wider audience. It is also beneficial for Pacquiao since he would be able to avoid the high taxes he as to pay if he fights in a US soil. Besides, Pacquiao is currently banned from fighting in the US following his knockdown loss against Juan Manuel Marquez. The Nevada Boxing Commission imposed on his a sanction of 120-day ban.
This warm up fight before the 5th fight with Marquez is very possible. Manila, Singapore and Macau has been offered as potential locations but Dubai seems to be the most ideal. The only problem is that boxing fans in the US would have to adjust their normal watching hours considering that Dubai is in a different time zone.
Bernard Hopkins already stopped worrying about whether Mayweather will ever fight Pacquiao. Mayweather plans to return to the ring on May 4 but not against Pacquiao but probably against Robert “the Ghost” Guerrero and Saul Alvarez next.
Negotiations for a Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight have stalled many times. For Bernard Hopkins, it is an easy pick in case Floyd fights Manny, it’s clear that the former will win. This assessment was given prior to the shocking defeat of Pacquiao. Now that Pacquiao suffered under the hands of Marquez (a fighter easily defeated by Mayweather) it would be much easier for Bernard Hopkins to pick Mayweather as a clear winner in case the two meets inside the ring.
Hopkins thinks that Mayweather has one of the best defense in the boxing world right now. For him, Mayweather will never be caught with a 3 -4 punch combination and that is why he is still undefeated.
He described Pacquiao’s defeat as something which the latter could not easily recover. For him, Pacquiao will suffer, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Given these pressure, Pacquiao will have a hard time to bounce back. The defeat actually took 10 years from his fight record, he will almost begin from scratch.
Manny Pacquiao did not wait for a few minutes to declare that he wanted a rematch against Juan Manuel Marquez. Immediately after he gained consciousness, he declared that he wanted a 5th bout against his arch nemesis.
What’s interesting about this declaration is that he did not wait for a clearance from a physician before he stated that he wanted to fight again. He did not say that he would consult his family before he face Marquez for the 5th time. No, just after he got embarrassed in front of millions of spectators both live and tv, he declared his intention.
A few days after his fight, doctors suggested that he should hang up his gloves. One even suggested that Pacquiao is showing signs of Alzheimer’s Disease – the same health issue that has inflicted the boxing legend Muhammad Ali. But all these did not matter anyone, all that is important is that Pacquiao has already decided and his decision is to fight again.
When Manny Pacquiao was knocked down by Juan Manuel Marquez, he suffered not just one big blow but two! The first one was the solid right hook that sent him to the canvass where he remained motionless for some time. The other one when he was imposed with a prohibition from fighting for the next 120 days in the United States.
Because of this mandatory requirement, Pacquiao is now deciding to fight by April outside of the United States. Some of the countries that are being considered are Singapore, Abu Dhabi or Macau. Konckz, the financial adviser of Pacquiao, said that they are finalizing this plan and hope to finish it this week.
Do you think Pacquiao is rushing things by fighting within the 120 day prohibition period? Pacquiao doesnt have to prove anything to his fans. We know that he is a great fighter and he does not have to fight by April to regain his face. He should wait until September for the fifth fight against Marquez before he returns to the ring.
Manny Pacquiao just arrived with his family after a much deserved vacation. They went to Israel to which Pacquiao said that he super enjoyed and was soaked in God’s word there. They went around this religious place with the hope of regaining the favor from God which he used to enjoy in the past.
In an interview however, Pacquiao disclosed that he is still uncertain about his next fight. He earlier said that he would like to return to the ring in April but Bob Arum and other supporters of Manny Pacquiao discouraged him from doing so, citing the big blow he received in his head which needs a deeper examination. Arum pointed out that Pacquiao could return to the ring by September to face for the fifth time Juan Manuel Marquez.
American trainer Rick Stahaley, who trained Pacquaio when he got his first title said that he absolutely agrees with Bob Arum and that Pacquiao should undergo a very rigid brain scan to detect any damage which he may have suffered during his most recent fight.
Manny Pacquiao’s spokesperson lashed back at Dr. Jimenez who earlier said that Pacquiao is showing early signs of Parkinsons disease. Rose Tamayo, Pacquiao’s PIO said that Dr. Jimenez should be more careful when making statements.
Dr. Jimenez, who is a neurologist, said that he noticed twitching of Pacquiao’s hand after the fight with Juan Manuel Marquez. He also noticed that Pacquiao is now stuttering when speaking. These according to him are indicators that Pacquiao may be suffering from Parkinsons Disease.
But Rose Tamayo said that Pacquiao had an MRI scan in Las Vegas after his fight with Marquez and he was cleared. He also underwent another MRI scan in Cardinal Santos Hospital in the Philippines when he got back and Pacquiao was also cleared.
However, Forbes’ reporter Dr. Racquel Fortun, a famous forensic pathologist was somehow skeptical about the results of the MRI. She said that she would like to make a deeper examination to be certain that Pacquiao is Parkinson’s free.

After thorough deliberation among Yahoo! sports analyst, they have come into the conclusion that the Pacquiao vs Marquez 4 is the fight of the year. The fight matched Rios vs Alvarado’s action and momentum shifts but the skill of the fighters made it a cut above the rest.
It was very clear from the start that they will put on a good show. Prior to this fight, they’ve had 36 rounds of encounter that resulted in very controversial decisions – both fighters claiming to have one all of their fights against the other.
Pacquiao promised to perform like he used to so that his fans and all those who would watch the show would be entertained. For Marquez, he promised to make the fight end in such a way that the judges would not have a say as to who among them won.
As it turned out, the fight was action packed starting with the opening rounds. To the surprise of everyone, Pacquiao was knocked down on the third round, but it did not take long before he avenged this with a knock down against Marquez.
But as we all know, the fight ended just a second before the end of the sixth round when Marquez caught a charging Pacquiao with a right hook that sent the latter to the floor and motionless for quite some time.
Lennox Lewis has an advise for Manny Pacquiao and that is not to hang up his gloves and continue to fight because he believes that the eight-weight world title can still come back from the knockout.
There had been calls for Pacquiao to stop fighting and just focus on politics or his showbiz career back in the Philippines. People, even his fans, also urged him that he already lost his spark and that it is better for him to just enjoy whatever he already achieved.
For Pacquiao, this is the first time that he suffered a back to back defeat following his very controversial loss to Timothy Bradley in June. However, for Lennox Lewis, that big loss could further inspire Pacquiao to bounce back, regain his former glory and even surpass what he already achieved.
Lewis said that a loss can make a fighter loss at himself which a victory could not do. He then said that a gladiator has to experience defeat and if you come back from them it only shows how great you are as a fighter.
